SIG Operations
The PMI®
Leadership Meeting & North America Global Congress,
being held in Toronto, Ontario, is right around the corner!
The board has been busy making preparations for those events,
including planning the SIG's
10th Anniversary Reception (the SIG was chartered
in 1995). And, of course, we'll also conduct our annual
face-to-face WiPM Board Meeting on September 6, as
well as the SIG
Annual Meeting (a charter requirement) on Sunday, September
11, and the PMI Networking Reception on Monday, September
12. We also had several member volunteers participate
as subject-matter experts (SMEs) in reviewing the papers
that will be presented at the Congress. Thank you to
Mary Jensen, Silvana Wasitova, Cecelia McFadden and
Stephanie Chernoff for their contributions
to PMI and representing the WiPM SIG. If any of you plan
on being in Toronto at the seminars or Congress events,
please look us up!
WiPM
Membership Survey
We recently completed our membership survey; it ran for
30 days, and there were 318 respondents--not bad for our
first attempt. We will develop an action plan for implementing
improvements once the results analysis is complete. Many
thanks to member volunteer Lisa Foster for
managing this task for us. If you'd like to see the results
summary,
it's
posted on the SIG web site.
Programs
& Education
Mentoring Program - it's not forgotten,
just a little slow in being reborn. In the meantime, the
BoD recently reviewed a very slick web-based mentoring program
offered by Corporate Mentoring Solution/Performance Transformations,
Inc. Our single largest hurdle in operating a virtual mentoring
program is the amount of administration and volunteer time
needed. So, we will review this issue more in the coming
months with the other PMI components and PMI Global Operations
Center, and see it it's feasible to implement from both
a cost and administrative perspective.
PMP® Exam Dates - reminder: 29 August
- final day to submit applications to test on the 2004 examination;
24 September- final day to test on the 2004 exam;
30 September - first day to test on the new 2005 exam.
Webinars - the SIG recently partnered with Praxis
Learning Networks to offer a distance learning event, "PMP®
- Ready, Set, Pass," on July 28. For those chasing
the "PMP" and were able to attend, we hope you
found this beneficial.

Women
Still Contend with Glass Ceiling
Few women are being appointed to head major
companies or their corporate boards in the U.S. and
abroad, according to industry statistics, 20 years
after the term "glass ceiling" was coined. Research
shows fewer qualified women are in the work force full-time
and there is a lack of necessary mentoring.

| What's
the Best Way to Send Your Resume? |
According to
College
Recruiter.com, most of the English-speaking
world uses Microsoft® Word, so attaching your resume as
a Word file is a good idea. Make sure it's labeled with your
name in the file name. Another alternative is to copy/paste
the file into the body of your e-mail message; you can type
your cover letter at the beginning of the message, separated
from the resume by a line or "see resume below"
notation. Another good tip, test the e-mail transmission first!
Send it to friends, then check to make sure it arrived in
"good condition." Check the College Recruiter web
site for more tips, and the do-it-yourself manual, The
Last Guide to Cover Letter & Resume Writing You'll Ever
Need.

the world. In America, it's 2 hours. France, Poland, Greece
or Russia--all average less than an hour.
Phishing
with Phones: The Latest Scam
Traditionally, phishing scams have used e-mail
to
direct potential victims to phoney web pages to
steal their identities. Now,
there's a new twist on Phishing.
