WiPM SIG News Brief - August 2007
SIG Updates

SIG Operations
The SIG board recently made a change in it’s governance. Roxanne Christopher, PMP, has joined the SIG Board in a new role, Director of Programs, which was recently established to oversee our various programs including PMP® eStudy, eMentoring and SIG Ambassador. The Board will continue to review the SIG operations for other opportunities for improvement and enhancement to governance as well as services.

The SIG is pleased to acknowledge WiPM member Zoran Lljubicic, PMP, (also a ITT SIG member) on winning the IT & Telecom SIG 2006 Professional Development Award which was presented to him at the PMI EMEA Congress in Budapest.

On the WiPM Web, WiPM SIG FAQs was recently updated and now incorporates much more general PMI SIG information. We also posted some recent additions to Good Reads.

Programs & Education
New from WiPM - Free Webinars – WiPM recently entered into an agreement with MetSIG to make their webinar program available to WiPM SIG membership; a similar agreement is pending with the Financial Services SIG. Expanding educational offerings is one of WiPM SIG strategic objectives, and this is one of several programs we hope to provide over the next several months. We're confident that these topics will be of interest to many of you, and that they will provide our members with another opportunity to earn PDUs towards PMP. Note--if you encounter problems with registration on the MetSIG website, please send a note to administrator@wipmsig.org.

WiPM PMP® eStudy
- Congratulations to Sharon Martin, PMP,  who will take over the Program Leader role for the eStudy Program effective August 15 and Kim Wallace will serve as the co-leader. This program is one of the SIG's signature programs and has been under the direction of Roxanne Christopher who established the original program, and created outstanding management teams and process improvements over the years. And, congratulations to those members who completed the most recent eStudy session and successfully passed the PMP® Certification exam!

eMentoring Program – The Board is currently interviewing potential candidates for the Program Leadership team, and we hope to have that completed within the next several weeks. In the meantime, we are revamping the program structure and high level timeline so as to meet the 1Q08 session kick-off. A wait-list has been established of members who have expressed interest in the program and they will be notified when the formal application process begins. Short-term, if anyone is interested in participating in the program leadership team (project management, administration, coaching) in a specific role, please send a note to administrator@wipmsig.org.

SIG Ambassador Program – We had an overwhelming response to our last note on this program, and those members have been added to a wait-list. The SIG is currently working with several members on some near-term events, and we hope to identify appropriate local PMI Chapter events throughout the next 3-8 months for the remaining individuals. Short-term, if anyone is interested in participating in the program leadership team (project management, administration, coaching) in a specific role, please send a note to administrator@wipmsig.org.

PMI News
PMI has launched the new PMI.org – The new PMI.org was built to benefit the most active members of the project management community — PMI members, credential holders and the invaluable volunteers and component leaders. Using "single sign-on" access, the new site collects and processes data from across many PMI-related sites at once to allow easier access to membership and certification. The new Marketplace, an integrated e-commerce destination, allows members to browse their order history and purchase new items more quickly information at PMI.org. Other changes, both visual and technical, give the site more eye appeal as well as make it easier to navigate when seeking information.

PMI comonents are ramping up their planning for the North America Leadership Meeting & Congress, to be held in Atlanta in October. WiPM is one of those SIGs that leverages that event to conduct their Annual Membership Meeting (on 6, Oct). Specific location and details will be provided once planning is completed.

What Your Desk Says About You
Not only does your workspace contain what you do while at work and outside of work, it also provides clues to how you do what you do. Like our cars, clothes or homes, our workspace provides clues about status, personality and work habits. For more on this topic, check out the book, How to Get Organized Without Resorting to Arson, by Liz Franklin.

Extroverts - your live life and enjoy being active. Appointments are spread over multiple calendars. Photos, decorations, candy, and lots of color invite conversations. Great at starting projects, socializing distracts from the finish.

Finisher - aka introvert. Your desk things are meticulous and specific, you prefer only one project at a time. But you're the go-to person--everyone wants your help. Good a what you do, but have difficulty staying on schedule due to interruptions.

Delegator - Lots of variety on your desk, you get involved in everybody else's jobs and tend to be "overbooked." You switch quickly between starting and finishing because you're trying to "play every instrument" --reel yourself in and focus on directing instead of doing.

Anger Management
Based on review of 63 different studies, two new labels were        created for folks with aggressive tendencies. Provocation-
sensitive will be aggressive if provoked; aggression-prone will        snap with little or no provocation at all. Either is a candidate        for anger management training.

Chick Food
More than 1,000 new foods and drinks targeting women        have hit the global market in the past four years, says        Mintel, which does research on new products. Republic of        Tea, Luna, Coca-Cola, are just some of the companies who        have joined the latest marketing trend--and no doubt they all        could use a good female project manager.
