From the Outgoing Chair
So long, but not goodbye! It is with some sadness that I hand-off
the role of WiPM Chair, after many years of service to this great
organization. I’ve had many challenges as a volunteer leader,
but even more rewards and opportunities for which I am so appreciative.
WIPM has evolved into a well respected virtual community both
within PMI as well as the project management industry in general,
and I am grateful to have been part of that exciting time. We
have accomplished much, not the least of which was the PMI
2005 SIG of the Year award and having our programs
and outreach activities so well received by our membership and
peers. For 2010, I will move into a past-chair role and provide
whatever guidance and assistance that is needed to the new leadership
team, with Andrea Giantelli as Chair. I have every confidence
that WiPM will continue to do great things and I look forward
to my continued relationship with you all.
Best Regards,
Rose Mary Tyler, PMP
From the Incoming Chair
Happy New Year Everyone! The new year
is always marked as a time for change, and I am excited to be
taking on the role of WiPM Chair! This is a very important time
for the WiPM, as we will be beginning our transition from a SIG
to a CoP, a community of practice. During this time of transition
we will be reviewing and enhancing our programs to ensure we continue
to provide value to all Women in Project Management. I hope you
will all join us as we progress and mature the community, and
I encourage you all to reach out to us and provide your thoughts,
comments and suggestions as you begin to witness what I am sure
will be a positive transformation. I am looking forward to working
with our new board members: Malinda Bernath-Simon, Megan Greve,
and with Rose Tyler, who will remain with us in the role of past-chair
and will continue to support us as we move to the CoP.
Sincerely,
Andrea G. Giantelli, PMP
Virtual Communities Project
As explained in our November issue, WIPM will begin VCP transition
activities this month. Specific communications will be sent to
membership as the migration to the new PMI Community of Practice
(CoP) structure evolves.

membership meeting in October 2009.

WiPM recently partnered with PMI Northern Italy Chapter on its

study pool for such a topic—we hope all of our members take advantage
of this opportunity to contribute.

Just Stuff
Five
Steps to Smart Leadership
Step
1: Measure more than the bottom line.
Think about the big picture and the impact your business has
on the community and the environment. Then take action to improve
in weak areas.
Step 2: Practice sustainable working styles.
Happy, healthy employees are more productive. Many companies
offer employees perks such as "movie days" or free
car washes. They also advocate a balance between work and home
life. Remember, lower absenteeism and job turnover also save
money.
Step 3: Get everyone working together.
Collaborate as a company to improve sustainability and generate
a sense of teamwork, excitement, and ownership. Bonus: it helps
attract the best people.
Step 4: Give back to the community.
Create employee-matching programs and encourage community involvement
and corporate philanthropy. People in your community help keep
you in business-return the favor!
Step 5: Reduce your carbon footprint.
Take stock of your energy usage and invest in alternative ways
to power your operation or reduce your consumption. "Think
green," and incorporate simple changes such as reducing
paper usage, recycling, and switching to energy saving light
bulbs.
