Just Stuff
Social
Networking...
Social networking sites gamble on the concept "...my
friend is also your friend because we both know each
other’s e-mail address." Social networking sites
aren't just limited to online dating--they're also used
in the business world and share several basic flaws.
What they don’t consider is the 1) fact that a friend-of-a-friend
could be an enemy, a real jerk or at least indifferent
to their cause; 2) they require a user to approach someone
with a formal request to engage in a networking relationship
going forward; and, 3) they also assume that people
will help others simply by tracing their linkages through
a chain of relationships. On a more positive note, tracing
linkages can be entertaining, like the famous
Kevin
Bacon game, Six
Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
