WiPM SIG's focus is to
reflect the true image of women in the project management workplace. The
WiPM SIG only recently "came back to life" bigger and stronger, after a
period of inactivity. In fact, in 2001 the SIG received a PMI award for
regeneration. We now have over 2,000 members worldwide, 15% of whom are
non-US located, including over 500 members with the Project Management
Professional (PMP) credential. Although our name and logo implies "women
only", that's not the case--we have approximately ten men who are members
of our organization. From the male perspective, WiPM provides a unique
opportunity to learn first-hand about both the similarities and
differences in gender as applied to our field.
Probably the biggest challenge we face is to attract and retain dedicated
volunteer leadership, but that problem is common to most, if not all, of
the PMI Components. We review our strategic initiatives and goals yearly
to determine how best expand or enhance our member services. 2003 has been
a busy year, focused on extensive revisions to our communications tools
such as the web site re-design, implementation of an eMentoring program
pilot and officer elections.
While the types of services we provide are standard, we try to gear them
with a female twist. Please browse our web site to learn more about our
quarterly Newsletter, News Brief (6 times a year), special programs such
as our eMentoring Program, YAHOO Community and our volunteer
opportunities.

WiPM participates in a number of PMI and industry events as a way to get
our name out there and attract new members. Like our sister components, we
have a number of give-away items that are used as part of those
activities:
